Many iron supplements are difficult to absorb (think "swallowing an iron nail to increase iron levels"). For this reason, they are often given in higher doses. At higher doses, however, iron supplements can cause stomach upset and / or constipation.

Dr. Myatt now recommends

Energizing Iron

Highly Absorbable Iron from Liquid Liver Extract

Restores Iron-Poor Blood Fast

Energizing Iron - Liquid LiverIron in supplemental form is used in cases of iron deficiency anemia. It is important to remember that there are many different types of anemia, and iron deficiency anemia should be diagnosed by a physician before you take supplemental iron. This is because iron overload can cause serious health problems. Also remember if you have iron deficiency that a cause should be sought. Lack of hydrochloric acid is a common cause of iron deficiency in adults. Be sure to perform a gastric acid function self-test if your are iron deficient anemic.

If you have been told by a doctor to take iron supplements, you have two choices: heme iron or non-heme iron. Heme iron is bound to oxygen-binding proteins and is extremely easy to assimilate. Approximately 35% or more of supplemental heme iron is absorbed.

Non-heme iron is elemental iron. Very little is absorbed (2.9% when taken on an empty stomach and 0.9% when taken with food). In other words, non-heme iron is about like swallowing a rusty nail in order to get your iron intake - it isn't very absorbable. Non-heme iron also has a high tendency to cause constipation, nausea and flatulence. Non-heme iron supplements include ferrous sulfate, ferrous fumarate and ferrous succinate (the most absorbable of the three elemental iron forms).

Heme iron is found in Liquid Liver Extract, and it is the easiest-to-assimilate form of iron. Liquid Liver helps build blood faster than taking many-times-higher doses of non-heme iron. Unlike elemental iron, it is not constipating. I highly recommend heme iron (Liquid Liver, now called "Energizing Iron") for anyone who has been told to take iron replacement therapy.

Suggested dose: 3-6 capsules per day with meals. Two capsules of Energizing Iron deliver the equivalent of 25mg of elemental iron.

Energizing Iron is derived from organically raised, antibiotic-free and hormone-free Argentine beef.

Each (one) capsule contains:
Liquid liver fractions (pre-digested concentrate) 550 mg
Vitamin B12 (cyanocobalamine) 100 mcg
